The principal activity of AWARE is rescue and rehabilitation of domestic animals. The shelter operates a no-kill policy and includes a permanent on-site spray/neuter clinic.

Minimum two week volunteer commitment and $5 daily charge to subsidize accommodation, utilities and facilities.



2) Unidas Para Vivir Mejor (Guatamala City)

Volunteer English Teacher wanted in Guatamala. Volunteers should have a conversation level of Spanish. Free Accommodation and Volunteering. Stipend available.



3) EntreMundos Guatemala

EntreMundos is a local Guatemalan NGO that works to support the capacities of other local projects and organizations. Free volunteering opportunities.


 
4) Asociación Ak’ Tenamit

Ak\' Tenamit is an indigenous community development organization that promotes long-term solutions to poverty through education, health, income generation and cultural programs.

Ak’ Tenamit depends on international professional volunteers to help accomplish its mission. Available positions include teachers, clinical personnel, grant writers, communications staff and more.

Volunteers receive board (a small room in the volunteer “galera”) and food (three meals a day, seven days a week consisting of rice, beans and tortillas), but are responsible for their travel to and from Guatemala and for any personal expenses, though stipends are offered for some positions.

Low Cost Volunteering Opportunities


1) Long Way Home (San Juan Comalapa)

Long Way Home began in 2004 with a grassroots, community development strategy to bring local residents together to learn about eco-friendly living, appropriate sustainable technologies, and improved waste management solutions.

The majority of volunteers work in alternative construction at the school site. You also have the opportunity to teach English and environmental education to elementary children.



2) Casa Guatemala (Rio Dulce)

Casa Guatemala is a children's village located in the isolated and remote area of Rio Dulce that is only accessible by boat and is completely off the grid. We are a centre for orphaned and vulnerable children where we provide a home, nourishment, an education and healthcare to over 250 children that come to us from various backgrounds.

Volunteers are required to have a basic level of Spanish, stay a minimum of 3 months, and be at least 24 years of age. All long term volunteers pay a one time contribution of $300 that is non refundable. Room and board is included.
